A Piece of Heart

You give a piece of heart away.
You expect something in return.

That is what you learned in school.
This is how trade works. You give something and receive something of similar value in return.

But you get nothing back.

Why?
What is wrong with that person?
How do you get your piece of heart back?

You know you did the right thing.
You also know that your heart will heal over time, even without that piece.
It may take time, but it will heal.

You try a different approach.
You give a piece of heart away. You don't expect anything in return.
You give it because it is the right thing to do.

You smile. You're happy.
You can hear your heart beating.
You're excited.

You check your heart. It seems bigger than before.
It has some holes. Overall, though, it feels bigger.

You wonder.
If your heart grows faster than it shrinks, why not give more pieces away?

Time flies.

Your heart is big and healthy. With no holes.
It has plenty of patches. All around.

Patches of different shapes.
Patches of difference colors.
Patches from other people's hearts.

You smile. You're happy.
