Animation Vocabulary

An interactive glossary of animation patterns — untoggle any term to see a live preview.

A glossary of the animation patterns taught in Emil Kowalski's animations.dev. The original is a flat list of definitions — this version makes every entry interactive.

Untoggle any bullet point to expand it: you get the definition plus a live preview of that pattern in motion. Most run on a loop; the interactive ones (hover, drag, hold, swipe, sliders…) are yours to play with. Knowing the names is half the battle — it is how you describe what you want when prompting an AI or briefing a designer.

Every preview here is plain CSS transitions, keyframes, and a little React state — no animation library. Credit for the vocabulary itself goes entirely to Emil Kowalski.
